The Bowen Technique is a gentle soft tissue therapy that does not use adjustment or manipulation to gain results. It combines a series of anatomically placed moves to ensure that the connective tissue which surrounds all organs and muscles in the body is relaxed and the muscles are working in the correct combination and length. With the structure balanced, function WILL follow.

The Bowen Technique :

Fascial Meridian Release Work

The Bowen Technique has rapidly expanded in the physiotherapy vocation in the last ten years. Recent research shows proven results in frozen shoulder presentations and new work has revealed excellent results in hamstring flexion and extension. (Please look at www.thebowentechnique.com for more details).

Intelligent anatomy thinking and application has allowed this very gentle non-invasive work to open up and challenge our understanding of how the brain communicates with the body and how it is more than capable of making it’s own adaptation when accurately prompted. Bowen allows the patient to re-assess proprioceptive patterns and old-injury cycles leading to gait alterations /change of muscle recruitment patterns and moves towards a whole anatomy perspective and an intrinsic understanding of fascial lines in the body.

Bowen has results with a range of presentations from musculo-skeletal to more organic functions such as asthma/Irritable bowel/tension patterns/migraine etc.

The therapy itself is also working towards scientific acceptance and a general position in preventative and restorative healthcare. Many physiotherapists have trained in the technique and use it on a regular basis in outpatients, orthopaedic, sports injuries and maternity departments. They have found it has a multitude of uses including being able to treat effectively even in the acute phase without causing discomfort.
